Paddleboarding (also known as SUP) has become very popular in the UK, it’s very easy to pick up and is actually quite relaxing once you’ve got the hang of it! We work with the The London Stand Up Paddle Company based in Richmond who provide excellent coaching and will get your standing in your first session.

The first lesson will last about 2 and a half hours. The first 30 minutes will be spent on a quiet stretch of the river where you’ll learn the basics of paddling, position on the board, turning and the safety aspects of paddling on the river. Once everyone is feeling confident we will start paddling down the river (direction depends on the tide), stop for a quick drink in the pub and then paddle back to Richmond. Once you have to been to the beginners paddleboarding session or feel confident on a board then there will be hour long sessions where we’ll head out on the board.

When: Details on the calendar page. This will be returning next year once the summer has returned!

Timings? TBC and will be based on the day you attend. The lesson is dependent on the tide timetable as we want to be paddle with the tide as much as possible (trust us, it’s a lot easier!). On the day, please make sure you are there 15 minutes before to get kitted up. Late comers will not be able to take part and no refund will be given.

Where do I need to meet? We will meet outside the Slug and Lettuce Pub in Richmond, just on the river.

What to bring? Layers, suncream (wishful thinking!) and water.

What do I wear? Bikini/swimsuit and sportswear that isn’t cotton as it takes a long time to dry if it gets wet. Anything with sweat wick is perfect.

What about rain? If it’s lightly raining, it will still go ahead. It will be cancelled if there are high winds or a storm.

How do I sign up? Sign up on Meetup.com.

Price: £45 per person.
